Day Three Reflection-The Social Change Agent

I will never think of technology the same after hearing Steve Halliday speak today. An unassuming tech guy exterior with the heart of a revolutionary. WOW!
Entertainment education and multimedia learning theory as a mechanism for social change is a powerful tool. What truly resonated with me was his emphasis on finding evidence of social change in what you do. "Whatever you create watch how peer-to-peer interaction takes place...that's where the change takes place". After all, it's the social change we are after and we need to be able to recognize it when we see it.

  1. Steve's work is deep in the heart of education, though he's not an educator. Glad you enjoyed what he had to say.

  2. I have seen the learning difference when students have the opportunity to discuss, analyze, interpret, etc. with their peers. Yesterday's video along with our guest speaker brought the importance of student interaction to the forefront. I agree with your take on what was presented.

  3. Although Steve's presentation was a bit dry (and I'll mark that up to his non education background), he opened my eyes to the "new" possibility of using entertainment education to change the position of the masses on social issues. It was certainly time well spent. As you stated, the important thing is to get people talking about a movie, book, etc. to make significant social changes.
